Welcome to the SCAAP!

The South Carolina Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics (SCAAP) is an organization that works toward establishing a safe environment for children, promotes the availability of universal vaccine, promotes health care access and financial reform of the health care system, promotes family support and a nurturing environment, and is an advocate for children's needs.

The SCAAP seeks to enhance communications between members of the South Carolina Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics, parents in South Carolina, and others invested in the health and well-being of children.

#SafeSleepSnap SIDS Photo Campaign and Chapter Challenge

To help raise awareness about safe infant sleep during Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) Awareness Month in October, chapters are encouraged to participate in the #SafeSleepSnap SIDS Photo Campaign! This is a social media opportunity to show babies sleeping in safe environments.

  1. Post a photo of your baby, grandbaby, niece, or nephew in—or next to—a safe sleep environment on your social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Pinterest).
  2. Use the hashtag #SafeSleepSnap in the post.

Invite your families to share their pictures with you and take the opportunity to offer encouragement and correction about safe sleep environments when you see an errant pillow, bumper or, blanket.

Issue a challenge: Chapters leaders are encouraged to challenge another practice, a colleague across town or across the country, or another hospital to a #SafeSleepSnap. Learn more.
